Affordable Housing Portfolio

Affordable Housing Projects

The Athens Land Trust Affordable Housing Program addresses community needs by creating environmentally friendly housing that is permanently affordable for residents of Athens Clarke County. Since the Kennedy Ridge project in 1994, ALT has been protecting land in order to provide and preserve affordable housing. ALT has provided hundreds of residents affordable housing opportunities through 53 single family homes and 126 affordable rental units.

Client Services

ALT is also an HUD-approved  Housing Counseling Agency that addresses the needs of low to moderate income residents who generally have difficulties purchasing a home due to credit barriers and lack of experience with the home buying process. ALT provides over 300 client services a year through homebuyer education, financial literacy education, and one-on-one counseling.

A Look at 2016

Current Impact

The Program is funded through a federal HOME grant and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).  The federal HOME Program (Home Investment Partnerships Program) was created by the National Affordable Housing Act of 1990, and allocates funds to participating jurisdictions for home-ownership projects, owner-rehabilitation projects and rental-rehabilitation projects.  Non-profits and other agencies apply to the local jurisdiction for funds to assist with their projects.

Participants will not be discriminated based on race, color, religion, disability, sex, familial status or national origin.
