On Friday, July 26, we celebrate the completion of three new Athens Land Trust homes located at 1000 and 1025 Henderson Extension and 150 Head Street. Thank you to everyone who helped to make our open house celebration so memorable! Thank you to Mayor Kelly Girtz,Commissioners Patrick Davenport, Tim Denson, and Mike Hamby for attending. Thank you also to our board members Sarah Sutherland, Nancy Stangle, and Willa Fambrough for all their hard work! Thank you to to ACC HCD staff Melinda Lord, Marqueta Swain, and Chadsity Young for their support! Special thanks to all ALT staff who helped to set up and host this event, especially our Housing Director, Clo Barnett, for her constant dedication. These energy-efficient, affordable, EarthCraft-certified houses will be sold to low-to-moderate income 1st-time homebuyers here in Athens. We are so grateful to everyone who works to make affordable housing a reality in Athens and beyond.

Construction on our new properties on Henderson Ext. (right) and Head Street (left) is coming along swiftly! insulation, siding and roofing complete, the drywall has been hung, and we are starting the landscaping process. The next steps will be painting, trimming, and beginning the electrical work.

Framing is complete at 1000/1025 Henderson Ext (left)., as well as initial plumbing and electrical work and windows. Framing should be complete at 150 Head St. (right) in a few weeks.

The Young Urban Builders (YUB) have been observing and learning the process of new construction by taking weekly site visits to 1000 and 1025 W. Henderson Ext., where two new permanently affordable ALT homes are being built. As of the end of January, framing has begun, and we are excited to watch the sites transform!

December 31, 2018

December was an exciting month for the Affordable Housing program. The final phase at the Cottages of Cannontown was completed, adding three new homes to the 15-home EarthCraft certified subdivision. To add to the excitement, three new homeowners closed on their homes in Cannontown, bringing the current total of ALT homeowners to 41. With 9 new homeowners in 2018, we had a record year last year — we look forward to working with more families in the New Year to make the dream of home ownership a reality in 2019! 

June 28, 2018

The homes in the final Phase of Cottages at Cannontown are getting closer to completion. The metal roofs have been installed and the siding and windows are in as well. Next is spray foam insulation and drywall. Two of the Three homes are already under contract and we expect these homes to be ready in the next few months. Stay tuned for more progress updates.

The lots on Cannon Drive are beginning to take shape! Construction on 105, 145 and 155 Cannon Drive has moved along quickly revealing tons of progress over the past few months. The three homes still have a long way to go, but the framing is up, and the bathtubs are installed.  All three homes should be ready this Fall, so stay tuned for more updates and photos.

Construction of the final phase of the subdivision at Cannontown has started. The lots are been prepared for the foundations and when completed the lots will have three 3 bedroom 2 bath homes on them.

On February 19, 2018 Athens Land Trust hosted a ribbon cutting celebration for the completion of three new energy efficient, affordable homes. Three new homeowners cut the ribbon on their new homes. Radio personality, Lady B from WXAG 92.7 FM and 1470 AM hosted a live show with music on site. Refreshments were served and guests were able to tour all three of the homes.

Progress on 165, 175 and 185 Cannon Drive has come along quickly in the past four months. The exterior sidings are complete, and windows are now installed. Spray foam insulation is now being installed and the drywalls are next. Once finished, these 3 bed/2 bath homes will be welcoming 3 first-time homeowner families. We are very excited! Construction on the new Cannon Town homes is in its earliest stages but progress is moving along quickly in the cozy cul-de-sac. Blocks for the foundation of the homes have been laid and the framing of the homes are about to begin. Make sure you stay tuned for more updates and photos.

ALT is proud to announce that new construction in the Cannon Town cul-de-sac has begun. Three new homes are being added to the subdivision, making a total of 12 permanently affordable homes on Cannon Drive. The three lots are still in their earliest stages but have already been cleared of trees and rubble. The construction team is working diligently on the retainer walls and will soon be leveling the lots. Stayed tuned for more progress and Photos.

Exciting updates on the two new homes located at 277 and 279 Paris Street! Major Construction has come to an end and the final touches to the interior and exterior are in progress. Exterior painting is wrapping up and all kitchen appliances will soon be installed. The Kitchen cabinets and countertops are installed and the bathrooms have been completed. Lighting fixtures and floors are soon to be finished in the next few weeks.
